Construction is currently underway on the new Indian Trail Municipal Complex, which will include the Town Hall, Community Center space and more on Matthews-Indian Trail Road. Updates on the project will periodically be posted below so residents can keep up to date on how construction on the building is going. Updates prior to February 23, 2016, are not included. A camera live stream (pictured above) will periodically post photos from the construction site. 

SEPTEMBER 20, 2017

Work on the first- and second-floor punch list items is ongoing, while the storm drain pipe beneath the intersection has been completed.  The brick pavers at the main entrance have been installed, and installation of landscaping and irrigation is ongoing. Sidewalks are complete except for those at the main entrance, and all window openings now have glass in place. 



AUGUST 28, 2017

  The architect (Creech & Associates), the construction manager at risk (Edifice), Indian Trail staff, and subconsultants will begin preparing the interior architectural punch list. On Wednesday, Aug. 30, the project team and Optima Engineers will begin the mechanical and electrical punch lists - including plumbing and fire protection. 

AUGUST 15, 2017

The Town is looking for great photos to frame inside the new Town Hall building. We’re looking for high-resolution photos that can be emailed to us, and that feature your favorite spot in Indian Trail. Photos that are picked  will be framed and include an inscription acknowledging and thanking the  photographer, who also will be thanked at an Indian Trail Town Council meeting. Email your submission to mep@indiantrail.org and include a description of when and where the photo was taken.

JUNE 22, 2017

The Union West Rotary visited the Town Hall site for a tour of the new building and to learn more about the community meeting space that will be available for reservation. Local community groups and homeowners associations who are interested in holding meetings in the building once it is open can arrange a tour by emailing mep@indiantrail.org.

JUNE 6, 2017 

Masonry and cast stone work is ongoing. Cornice work is ongoing. Installation of architectural case work and millwork on the first and second floor continues. Trim has been delivered and stored on site. Roof access louver is in-place. Carpet has been install on the first and second floor. A/V equipment including projectors, projector screens, cameras, speakers and wiring are being installed. Restroom countertop support framing, ceramic toilet and lights have been installed.

MAY 31, 2017

Much of the masonry work on the outside walls of the new Town Hall building has been completed, though some work remains. Ceramic floor and wall tile is mostly complete in the building’s restrooms, and light fixtures are being installed throughout the building. Painting on the first and second floor is currently taking place, while architectural casework and millwork is being installed on both floors. 

MAY 15, 2017

Crews have completed installing the attic insulation in the new Town Hall building. They’ve also installed the elevator and are working on installing windows, masonry and light fixtures. 

APRIL 10, 2017 

Masonry at the east wall is nearing completion, and masonry is being placed on the north and south elevations. Lobby Gypsum board has been hung and finished, while the second floor ceiling grid and above ceiling roughing is ongoing. The elevator platform and hoisting equipment are being installed and installation of attic ductwork is ongoing. Colored TPO roofing material has been applied to the two small triangular walls adjacent to the roof access louver. 

MARCH 29, 2017

 The North elevation column framing, including vapor retarder, is now complete. And masonry work is near completion. The first floor walls have been primed painted, and the first floor ceiling grid is ongoing. Support steel for restroom countertops is in place. Second floor walls are being insulated, while drywall is being hung, taped and finished. Attic space equipment, duct and conduit is nearing completion. And HVAC units have been set at the north flat roof. 

FEBRUARY 23, 2017

Electrical wiring has been completed on the first floor, while sheetrock is currently going up on the floor. The building's HVAC work is 90 percent complete, and brick work is taking place on all four sides of the Town Hall. Inspections on the exterior of the building have begun. The building is mostly contained at this point.

JANUARY 18, 2017

Crews continue to work on the exterior brick of the Town Hall building, as well as flashing and insulation installation. The roof trusses and metal decking are substantially complete, while mechanical equipment and fire protection rough-in on both floors continues. Wall mounted power and data boxes, as well as wood blocking for televisions, is being installed. Truck and duct installation is in progress on both floors, and mechanical equipment has been delivered and stored in the attic. Electrical rough-in is in progress on both floors, and plumbing piping has been installed in the walls and overhead. Fire protection piping is in progress.

DECEMBER 13, 2016

The stairs from the second floor to the roof have been installed, and fireproofing installation is complete throughout the building for the second floor framing. Interior and exterior metal stud framing continues and is nearly complete in some instances. Overhead utility installation is in progress for both floors. Interior and exterior walls are near completion and gypsum board wall covering is ongoing.

NOVEMBER 21, 2016

Crews working on the Town Hall are currently in the process of: installing exterior wall framing and sheathing, first and second floor wall framing, in-wall plumping piping and carriers, and ductwork. Crews also have backfilled the building perimeter footing excavation.

OCTOBER 27, 2016

Work continues this week on exterior framing on the first floor of the new Indian Trail Town Hall. Work will begin next week on the exterior framing of the second floor of the building. Fire proofing on the first floor of the building has been completed and will be tested next week.

OCTOBER 6, 2016

Contractors are in the process of installing the mechanical work for the duct system on the first floor of the Indian Trail Town Hall, as well as the metal stairs and handrails to the second floor. The second floor concrete slab is now entirely poured.

SEPTEMBER 23, 2016

Work on the metal decking at the new Indian Trail Town Hall building is complete, and crews are scheduled to begin pouring the second floor concrete next week. That will be followed by pouring for the roof.

SEPTEMBER 2, 2016

Crews have continued work on exterior changes to the Town Hall building over the last two weeks, including deconstructing and modifying structural steel, getting ready for roof decking installation, grouting base plates and preparing steel tube for windows.The construction manager is currently working with subcontractors in validating the durations of project activities, while the concrete pour on top of steel decking at the site will start in mid- to late-September. Crews also are working to install a camera at the site to record future progress and allow residents to check in on the project online.

AUGUST 19, 2016

Crews have returned with equipment to the site of the Indian Trail Town Hall project and begun work on structural steel efforts, which are expected to continue for the near future.

AUGUST 4, 2016

The contractor will return to the site of the Indian Trail Town Hall project next Monday, while the structural steel is targeted to be completed within a month. Once steel work is completed, crews will be able to move forward with the next stage of the project.

JULY 27, 2016

The Indian Trail Town Hall project's Construction Manager has informed the Town that construction crews will return to the Town Hall project site the week of Aug. 8 to resume work following revisions to the design of the project. Additional construction materials needed to complete the structure also are expected to be shipped the week of Aug. 8. Patrick Sadek, the Town's new Director of Engineering & Public Works, will work closely with the Construction Manager during the final phases of the project and as construction moves forward in the coming days.

JUNE 28, 2016

The Town expects to receive permitting approval from Union County regarding the revised design in July. The delivery of structural steel is expected to take place in August, followed by building dry-in, which is anticipated to take place in December. Interior finishes would then take place in March 2017. The anticipated completion date remains April/May 2017.

JUNE 1, 2016

The project contractor has paved the first of two lifts of asphalt on all the pathways and parking stalls around the site. The final lift won’t occur until the final stages of the project. Union County was presented revised drawings for permit approval on May 26, 2016. While the permitting process moves forward, the Construction Manager continues to coordinate and schedule with the steel fabricator regarding the approved plan changes. The process for selecting and coordinating the furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FFE) is ongoing. The Construction Manager anticipates work to resume onsite in mid-July, and the anticipated project completion set for early 2017 remains unchanged.

MAY 10, 2016

The stone base has been completed on the pathways and parking stalls at the new Town Hall site. The grading contractor is scheduling paving work, while interior redesign work continues to move forward.

APRIL 15, 2016

Most of the concrete curb and gutter has been installed and backfilled. The contractor has installed all irrigation sleeves and has begun to backfill the main interior square in front of the building. Fine grading for vehicular pathways has begun. The contractor will be implementing stone base in these pathways in the coming weeks. Interior redesign continues to move forward.

APRIL 1, 2016

Undercutting of soils and replacing them with suitable material has been completed along the curb lines of the parking lot. Concrete curb installation should begin soon. Interior redesign continues to move forward.

MARCH 15, 2016

Unsuitable soils have been removed from the project. Undercutting is being performed along concrete curb areas of the parking lot. Interior redesign is moving forward.

MARCH 2, 2016

The project contractor has installed the steel structure for the building. Unsuitable soils are currently being removed from the site and parking lot construction will begin very soon. An interior redesign, per Indian Trail Town Council’s direction on Feb. 23, is under way.

FEBRUARY 23, 2016

The Indian Trail Town Council voted in favor of a new design for the interior of the Indian Trail Municipal Complex in order to ensure the building was designed as efficiently and effectively as possible.
