Local drivers have begun noticing new signs posted at some of the gateways to Town, highlighting Indian Trail’s recognition as a Purple Heart City.
The honor recognizes Indian Trail’s place as home to a number of brave men and women who have been wounded in combat and awarded the Purple Heart – and the Town’s mission to honor them. The designation is awarded to municipalities by the Purple Heart Foundation, and Indian Trail was added to the list of recognized towns in 2014.
“It’s a small token of our appreciation in recognizing those that served our nation during times of conflict,” Mayor Michael Alvarez said of Indian Trail’s efforts to honor Purple Heart veterans. “And it’s a reminder to all of us that our freedoms come with a price, and many have paid for our freedoms with their lives.”
The Indian Trail Public Works Department has installed 10 Purple Heart City signs at entry points to the Town. They also will install a Purple Heart Parking Only sign at the new Town Hall when it opens later this year.
