Union County & Indian Trail Partner to Extend Water Service to Neighborhood
The Emerald Woods neighborhood in Indian Trail is now connected to the Union County Water system, thanks to a special partnership between the Town of Indian Trail and Union County. Elected leaders, staff and residents gathered this week to celebrate the completion of the Emerald Woods Water Line Project, which was constructed to provide water service to a neighborhood previously dependent on wells. When some residents began to experience problems with their well water, they turned to town leaders to assist with covering the costs of building the needed infrastructure to serve their neighborhood. Indian Trail town leaders allocated American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) funds to the project, and the Union County Board of Commissioners allocated a matching amount from Union County Water's capital program.
"So many of us take water service for granted, but projects like this remind you that it takes a lot of work and planning to extend water service to a community that needs it," said Melissa Merrell, Chair of the Union County Board of Commissioners. "We're so pleased that this partnership has resulted in reliable water service for years to come for the residents of Emerald Woods."
“Access to clean, reliable water is a basic necessity, and I’m proud that we could deliver that to the residents in the Emerald Woods neighborhood," said David Cohn, Mayor of Indian Trail. "This project represents more than just infrastructure -- it’s about health, dignity and quality of life. I want to thank Union County for partnering with the Town of Indian Trail on this important project.”
Members of the Union County Board of Commissioners and the Indian Trail Town Council were pleased to gather with residents of Emerald Woods and celebrate this milestone for their neighborhood on May 7, 2025. County and town staff attended the community's celebration to answer questions about the project and help residents apply for water service.
