Indian Trail to build Veterans Memorial Garden; seeks community support

Veterans Memorial rendering

The Town of Indian Trail is engaging the community in its efforts to create the Indian Trail Veterans Memorial Garden at Town Hall.

The project, a partnership with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2423 of Indian Trail, seeks to create a lasting tribute to the men and women who have served our country and provide a place for veterans and their families to gather and reflect. The Memorial, which will be located in the quad in front of Indian Trail Town Hall, will include a wall of plaques honoring veterans and their service, with members of the community able to have a loved one memorialized. Indian Trail staff created the project’s design, with input from local veterans.

“The Town of Indian Trail has always been proud of our strong relationship with our veterans and our local VFW Post,” Indian Trail Director of Communications Mike Parks said. “These men and women are the backbone of our community, and they continue to give back to our town through their volunteerism and leadership well after their military service concluded. We are overjoyed to be able to honor them with the Indian Trail Veterans Memorial Garden.”

Donations for a Memorial plaque will begin at $100, with all proceeds benefiting the construction of the Memorial. Donations also will be accepted from community members who are not interested in a plaque but are wishing to support the project. Additionally, a golf tournament will be held June 30 to support the project.

“Our finest ideals and values as a nation are embodied in the members of our military whose sacrifices too often go unnoticed and unacknowledged,” Indian Trail Mayor Pro Tem David Cohn said. “It is our goal to build the Indian Trail Veterans Memorial Garden which will serve as a permanent statement of our community’s gratitude and support for those whose lives have been dedicated to the protection of our freedom.”
