Former Town Council Member and long-time Indian Trail resident Shirley Howe passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021.
Shirley was re-elected to the Town Council in November of 2019, after filling a vacant Council seat in 2017. She also served on the Town Council from 2005-2009. During that time, she held the role of Mayor Pro Tem. Shirley had been heavily involved with the Town since 2003 when she began regularly attending Council meetings. In addition to her time on the Town Council, she served on the Board of Adjustment. She was also instrumental in the creation of the Town’s stormwater program and the Stormwater Advisory Committee, which she chaired.
“Shirley loved Indian Trail and served its residents for many years, both in a personal and professional capacity,” said Indian Trail Mayor Michael Alvarez. “For nearly two decades she was involved with our community. She never put herself above her position, and the residents were her priority. She treated everyone with kindness and respect and always stood up for what she believed was right. It was an honor and a privilege to know her and to serve on the Town Council with her. She made Indian Trail a better place, and we will miss her. On behalf of the Town Council, Town staff and residents, I thank Shirley for her years of service.”
The Town asks that you please join us in sending thoughts and prayers to Shirley’s family, friends and all those who knew and loved her.
