[ARCHIVED] Indian Trail Seeks Public Input on 2041 Comprehensive Plan Update

Town of Indian Trail Comprehensive Plan through 2041

The Town of Indian Trail is in the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan and is seeking input from the public, beginning with a community survey. The survey can be found at www.surveymonkey.com/r/ITcomprehensiveplan and will be open until March 22 at 5 p.m. Paper surveys are also available in the lobby at Town Hall (315 Matthews-Indian Trail Road). The website for the Town Comprehensive Plan update is http://indiantrail.org/561/2021-Comprehensive-Plan-Update

“It has been several years since the last update to the Comprehensive Plan,” said Tim Jones, senior planner and staff contact for the plan update. “So it’s time to take a new look at the Town’s future. As part of this exciting effort, we are asking the community to come along and participate at several points throughout the process. The first opportunity for input is the initial community survey, and we encourage all residents and business owners to participate. It will only take a few minutes of your time.”

The Comprehensive Plan is a 20-year guide for future growth in Indian Trail. The last update to the plan was done in 2013. The first phase of the Comprehensive Plan update began in May of 2020 and focused on gathering data and establishing an Advisory Committee. The second, and current, phase focuses on the vision and analyzing the data collected in Phase 1. Phase 2 will also include stakeholder interviews and public meetings.

In Phase 3, Town staff will use the data analysis and public input to create directional scenarios for the plan. Phase 4 will include plan development and adoption. Both phases will provide additional opportunities for community feedback through public input meetings. The goal is for the Town Council to adopt the plan in November 2021.

The Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee, made up of residents, business owners, developers, contractors, real estate professionals, and Town and Union County representatives, will meet regularly throughout the process and provide guidance and recommendations to Town staff as the plan is developed.

“Public input is critical to the success of the Comprehensive Plan update,” said Brandi Deese, planning director. “Once the plan is adopted, any new project that is approved in Town must follow it. Our residents can have a large impact on the future of Indian Trail by participating and providing input during this process.”

The Town plans to announce the public meeting dates soon and will publish that information on its website and social media accounts.
