The Indian Trail Division of the Union County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Town of Indian Trail, will be piloting a temporary parking permit program beginning Oct. 1 and ending Dec. 31. If the program is successful, it will be continued into the new year. There will be no charge for the permits.
Three types of free temporary parking permits will be available:
- Maintenance (yard work, cleaning services, home repairs, etc.)
- Medical (hospice care, home health aides, etc.)
- Family Gatherings (holidays, wedding/baby showers, etc.)
The program is primarily aimed at residential neighborhoods where on-street parking has become such a big issue.
The homeowner should obtain a permit for each car that will be parking outside of their driveway for family gatherings and one-time maintenance or medical visits.
Maintenance and medical parking permits can be granted for a six-month period for those that are making regular visits. The homeowner can obtain these permits, or, if the business works in other locations in Indian Trail, the business owner/employees can apply for the permit, and it will be good throughout the Town.
Permits can be obtained from the Union County Sheriff’s Office Indian Trail location at 130 Blythe Drive.
Each permit will contain the homeowner’s or business owner’s/employee’s name and phone number. The goal of the permits is to provide the Sheriff’s Office with a name and contact information should they need a vehicle to move during an emergency. Instead of taking the time to go door-to-door looking for the owner of a vehicle, they can make a phone call and resolve the issue more efficiently.
