Indian Trail Councilman Mark Wireman has resigned his seat on the Indian Trail Town Council, effective immediately.
Wireman, who was elected in November 2015, said his work requirements will make it impossible to serve the residents of Indian Trail to the capacity they deserve.
“My work commitments and demands have become too great for me to be able to fulfill the requirements of my position on Council, and I feel it is best for me to make room for someone with the time and energy to devote to the important role of Town Council,” Wireman wrote in his resignation letter. “It has been a great pleasure being a part of Council and I am so proud of all we have accomplished since December 2015, and I have no doubt the Council will continue these successes in the future.”
The Indian Trail Town Council will discuss the process of temporarily filling the vacant seat at their next meeting, currently scheduled for Aug. 8. This new unexpired seat will be added to the November election ballot, meaning there will be two 2-year seats and two 4-year seats on the ballot. Residents who file to run for election will have to pick whether they wish to run for the two-year seats or the four-year seats, and then the top two vote getters in each category will be selected for the seats in November.
Election filing is currently taking place at the Union County Board of Elections. The filing deadline is still July 21 at noon. The deadline will not be extended for this new open seat.
