Give Input on Public Transportation in Union County

Transity Survey

The following information comes from the Union County Government.

Union County is seeking public input from residents regarding the future of public transportation services along the Monroe Road and U.S. 74 corridor.

Residents currently have access to public transportation options, including Union County Transportation's "dial-a-ride" service and the 74X/Union County Express bus service from Monroe and Indian Trail to uptown Charlotte, which is funded by Union County and operated by CATS (Charlotte Area Transit System). Due to increasing costs, decreasing ridership, and changes in demand for service, Union County is asking residents to help determine the best use of limited transit funds in a transit study starting May 16.

County leaders will use survey responses to assess transportation service needs and preferences, and make informed decisions on how to best use local transit funding. This survey is being conducted in partnership with the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization and CATS.

The survey is available in English, Spanish and Russian. Individuals who do not have internet access can request a paper copy of the survey by calling Union County Senior Planner Bjorn Hansen at 704-283-3690. The survey period ends on June 12, 2022.

Union County Transportation serves more than 1,400 customers and completes an average of 340 trips each day through its "dial-a-ride" service, which is available to all County residents over age 18. This service allows residents to access medical care, educational opportunities, jobs, shopping, and other resources.
