[ARCHIVED] Indian Trail’s Crooked Creek Park Splashpad now open

Grab a towel, because the Crooked Creek Park Splashpad is now open in Indian Trail.

The much-anticipated play feature adds even more to do at the growing Crooked Creek Park. It is open seven days a week, from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The splashpad, at 2,464 square feet, includes eight above-ground water features and seven in-ground sprayers - including spraying flowers and animals to complete the nature theme, and interactive elements to provide visitors with a unique experience. The splashpad is located beside the park’s popular shaded playground and zip line, allowing families to enjoy a little bit of everything all from one enclosed area. There are seven picnic tables nearby, located under shade structures, and five benches closer to the spray zone. Visitors should press the button on top of the blue pillar to trigger the water if it is not on when they arrive.

“We are so excited to open the splashpad at Crooked Creek Park,” Indian Trail Director of Parks & Recreation Jay Tryon said. “This feature will allow kids of all ages to enjoy the park in a brand new way. Water play is not only incredibly fun for a small child, but it also enhances a child's physical, cognitive, and social skills.”

The Indian Trail Parks & Recreation Department has purchased a water-proof wheelchair that will be available to the public for reservation. Those interested will need to contact the department at 704-821-8114 ahead of their visit to reserve the wheelchair, and Parks & Recreation staff will bring it to the splashpad.

Indian Trail recently received a Parks and Recreation Trust Fund, or PARTF, grant from North Carolina State Parks to support the construction of the splashpad and other projects at Crooked Creek Park. It is the fifth grant Indian Trail has received for its parks - including a PlayPrints grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) and the North Carolina Recreation and Park Association, a Healthy Eating grant from BCBSNC for the Crooked Creek Park concession stand, an Away From Home Recycling Project grant from the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources and a USA Football grant to provide for flag football in Indian Trail. The Town also is actively pursuing a sixth grant at this time.

"The Parks and Recreation industry is very fortunate in that there are a number of grant programs available to help further the mission of getting our communities outside and more active," Tryon said. "And we are very aggressive in pursuing those types of programs in Indian Trail in order to provide as many amenities and options for our residents as possible while being conscious of the importance of spending their tax dollars wisely and efficiently."

Crooked Creek Park is located at 5900 Oakwood Lane.
