[ARCHIVED] National Night Out returning Aug. 7

Law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency responders and all others who put their lives on the line every day to protect Indian Trail’s residents will gather soon for a celebration of what makes the community special.
National Night Out 2018 will take place Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Chestnut Square Park. The event gives the community an opportunity to meet emergency services personnel in a comfortable, friendly setting and get to know those who protect and serve Indian Trail.
It will also give residents a chance to check out some of the tools of the trade these heroes use to keep their community safe – fire trucks, Union County Sheriff’s Office cruisers, K9 unit, SWAT vehicles and much more, capped off with a helicopter landing of Med Center Air on the Chestnut Square Park multipurpose field. Visitors will be able to check out all the vehicles and speak first hand with those who know them best, learning more about what law enforcement and first responders do day in and day out.
“The Union County Sheriff’s Office, our local firefighters, emergency services personnel and many others are part of all the events we hold in Indian Trail, though you may not always see them there working hard to keep our festivals safe and fun,” Indian Trail Special Events Coordinator Hayden Kramer said. “Having the opportunity to honor them with National Night Out, and let them take part in the festivities themselves, is a wonderful chance for us to say ‘Thanks!’”
This year’s National Night Out event also will include free food, giant yard games, numerous vendors, a bounce house and the return of the crowd-favorite Dunk Tank. It will be an opportunity not only for families to have an enjoyable night out, but also a chance to make a lasting bond with those who have dedicated their lives to service.
“A lot of times when a family interacts with a deputy or firefighter, it’s because something has gone wrong in their lives and they are in need,” Indian Trail Director of Communications Mike Parks said. “And that’s why National Night Out is so important - it is all about bringing us all together in a positive, comfortable setting so we can create these relationships in our neighborhoods and strengthen our communities.”
