[ARCHIVED] Indian Trail ready to get spooky

More than 90,000 pieces of candy. A story-telling, Magician-Pirate. Free pumpkins for kids. And the largest costume contest this side of the Monster Mash.

All that and more is coming to Chestnut Square Park for the annual Indian Trail Halloween Spooktacular.

Indian Trail’s most popular, family-friendly event will take place Friday, Oct. 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. Families can begin lining up earlier for the candy crawl if they wish, or take part in other festivities happening around the park. Those festivities will include free crafts for kids, story time provided by the Indian Trail branch of the Union County Public Library, free games such as ring toss and a carnival game tent, a DJ playing classic Halloween tunes, the always-popular Costume Contest, and Captain Jim who will entertain attendees throughout the park.

“We’ve gathered up nearly all the candy that could be found in Indian Trail and are ready to give it out by the handful to all the superheroes, princesses, and anyone else with a cool costume in town,” said Indian Trail Special Events Coordinator Hayden Kramer. “The Halloween Spooktacular is one of our favorite events of the year because of all the kids and families who go all out to join in on the fun and engage with us and their community.”

Pleasant Plains Dental will sponsor this year’s Halloween Spooktacular and serve as judges of the Costume Contest, while Randy Simpson Produce will decorate the park and provide free pumpkins for kids. More than 60 local businesses also will be on hand to give out candy to trick-or-treaters. All kids attending should be accompanied by a guardian during the event.

“The Halloween Spooktacular is definitely a community-wide event, and we wouldn’t be able to make it all happen without the help and support of so many great Indian Trail businesses, civic organizations and others who donate their time to help provide a special evening for local families,” Indian Trail Director of Communications Mike Parks said.

Parking will be available at Chestnut Square Park and the Indian Trail Town Hall on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional parking will be available at the nearby Spangler parking lot.

Chestnut Square Park is located at 320 Chestnut Pkwy. Find more information about Indian Trail Parks and Recreation and future events at www.itsparksandrec.com.
