[ARCHIVED] Input needed for Secrest Short Cut Road plan

Secrest Shortcut small area plan postcard

Union County and the Town of Indian Trail are developing a Small Area Plan for the Secrest Short Cut area to guide future growth near the Monroe Expressway interchange at Unionville-Indian Trail Road. The plan aims to reflect community priorities and guide economic development opportunities in the changing landscape.
A 2nd public open house is scheduled for Thursday, May 31st from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. The event will be held at the Indian Trail Town Hall at 315 Matthews-Indian Trail Road. Residents are encouraged to drop-in anytime to view proposed land use plan scenarios for the area, give feedback on those plans, talk with staff, and collaborate with friends and neighbors. The open house will gather input about the three land use scenarios, that identify locations for housing, retail and employment uses, that are being considered for the study area
Union County and Indian Trail Staff, along with Gresham, Smith and Partners, have prepared three land use scenarios based on feedback from the 1st open house held in February, as well as comments received via the MetroQuest survey. The Secrest Short Cut study area is approximately 1,323 acres and the majority of land is undeveloped. About 25% of land is currently used for agriculture and much of developed land is for residential purposes.
Gresham, Smith and Partners has been selected to provide engineering and planning services for the project. GS&P’s team of transportation engineers, transportation planners and landscape architects will deliver the project in three phases – community outreach and existing conditions analysis, framework for plan options and recommendations, and the final area plan – in order to determine the solution that will best support the county’s current and future needs.
Input from residents will be critical in helping guide the priorities and plan for the Secrest Short Cut area. The Town of Indian Trail and Union County will approve the plan in mid-2018.
